On the hard stuff

2nd June 08

It seems like every day something more exciting than the previous happens – and today was no exception as we started to lay the paving.

I felt more like a builder than a gardener and my hands are covered in cuts, grazes and cement from a hard day’s laying, levelling and pointing. I’m getting stuck in as much as possible and am learning an awful lot!

We’ve still got a fair bit to do but the main paved area is down and it looks stunning. The Natural Sandstone looks better than I imagined and really achieves the clean look I was after.

I have to admit when I visited the quarry at Hulland Ward to choose the paving, I felt a little bamboozled as there was so much choice. But now the paving is taking shape I can see I made absolutely the right choice to fit with the garden design. I can’t wait to start on the planting as they will complement each other perfectly.

I’m off to ease my aching muscles in a long hot bath – this gardening malarkey is hard work!
