The Garden
The design is largely based around the concept of water and aims
to encourage us to consider ways of recycling and sustaining a
plentiful supply of water in our gardens, without compromising
contemporary design.
The focal point of the garden is a ‘sardine tin’ water canal.
The feature will include noisy jets springing to life and rippling
through water to mimic an excited shoal of sardines. A subtle
abstract sardine pattern will also sparkle through illuminated
water at night.
Raised vegetable baskets and a hip height salad bar also
feature, as well as a curved wall and rainwater puddle ring.
The planting is characterised by wave-like grasses and floating
flowers. Concealed beneath the plants to the rear of the garden is
the ‘good life’ garden shed. Solar panels are incorporated among
the sedum carpet on the green roof, offsetting the power required
for the water jets and spot lighting.
The overall aim of the garden is to highlight the value of water
and how it holds the key to the good life. And don’t we all enjoy
the feelgood factor engendered by "doing our bit"?
